SAPNewsTL, Dili – President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta received President of the Republic of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Head of State Ramos Horta said the visit is to further strengthen relations between India and Timor-Leste in agriculture, education, health, medical and digitalization.
The first official visit of the Indian Head of State to Timor-Leste is to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in the present and future.
On this important occasion, President Ramos-Horta conferred on the President of India, Murmu Grande Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste which is the highest honor in Timor-Leste.
After the meeting, President of the Republic José Ramos Horta said the visit was to further strengthen relations between India and Timor-Leste in agriculture, education, health, medical and digitalization.
“Very good time, today the President of the Republic makes his first visit to Timor-Leste, this visit will open embassies in Dili and India, we will further strengthen relations between the two countries in agricultural cooperation, education, health, medical, digitalization”. The Indian Head of State said that the meeting with the President of the Republic discussed bilateral relations between Timor-Leste.
“During the discussion with President of the Republic Ramos Horta, we discussed bilateral relations between Timor-Leste and India on cooperation in Informatics, Technology, Digitization, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Capacity Building and others”. Head of State justifies
The President of the Republic of India added that he signed three agreements, namely Visa Obligation Exemption for Diplomatic and Official Passport Holders, Cultural Exchange Program between the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and the Government of the Republic of India and Cooperation and Collaboration on Broadcasting between Radio and Television Timor-Leste (RTTL) with Prasar Bharati, India (Broadcasting Corporation of India).
President Murmu reaffirmed India’s strong support for Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN in 2025 and congratulated the country on its recent acceptance into the World Trade Organization.
The two leaders stressed the importance of dialogue and adherence to international law to promote regional and global peace. President Ramos-Horta, expressed Timor-Leste’s support for India’s candidacy for permanent membership in the UN Security Council.
This historic meeting is expected to be an important step towards a stronger partnership between Timor-Leste and India in the years to come.
