SAPNewsTL, Philippine — Expelled Negros Oriental representative Arnolfo Teves Jr. will be arraigned today for one of the criminal cases he is facing before a Manila court, according to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Judge Renato Enciso of the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 12 set the arraignment and pre-trial conference at 8:30 a.m. for charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago said the bureau is waiting for the court’s instruction after Teves’ lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio, filed a motion for his client to attend the proceedings online.

Santiago said the NBI is prepared to transport Teves to the court from the NBI’s facility at the Bureau of Corrections compound in Muntinlupa.

“I will send a battalion of security personnel to bring him to the Manila court,” Santiago said. “But there is a motion filed by the counsel requesting his arraignment to be conducted through Zoom, which is permissible in the judiciary.” Manila, Phipplipes, 05/06/2025

The NBI is also awaiting the commitment orders from all six courts handling the charges filed against Teves.

The Manila RTC Branch 12 has committed Teves to the Manila City Jail.

Santiago, however, has instructed NBI wardens to stay put until there is clarity on where Teves should be detained.

Santiago also said that NBI agents went to Negros Oriental on Tuesday to return the arrest warrant for another case Teves is facing in his home province.

Santiago said Teves is sharing a 10-square-meter cell with two other detainees.

Asked if Teves has a chance to be granted temporary release, Santiago expressed doubt.

“He has a lot of cases and many of them are non-bailable. So on the part of granting his bail, as a former judge, I think it will not be approved,” he said.
