New Committee Launches to Bridge Korean Peninsula Divide & Focus on Legal Framework for Unification

SAPNewsTL, South Korea : In the context of the commemoration of the 9th Annual Heavenly Culture World Peace Restoration of Light (HWPL) with the theme of Building Bridges to Korean Reunification, Establishing Legal and Practical Frameworks for Peace, the Declaration of Peace (DPC) reaffirmed its commitment to the World Peace Declaration (DPW).
HWPL President Chairman Lee said the event brought together more than 1,000 domestic and international leaders to draw up a comprehensive plan for a national peace and unification initiative focused on the legal framework for unification.
“The 9th annual commemoration of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW)” held in 93 countries around the world, a significant step towards the unification of the Korean Peninsula was taken with the launch of the, Parallel Committee for Peace Unification,” said HWPL President Chairman Lee in his speech in Cheongju, South Korea, Friday (03/14/2025)
HWPL leader Chairman Lee said, particularly the event held in Cheongju, South Korea, brought together more than a thousand domestic and international leaders, to discuss a comprehensive plan for national unification based on United Nations accreditation.
“HWPL organizes this event bringing together an international NGO accredited by the UN, the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) campaign together, linking Korea, involving approximately 170 civic groups, with the objective of fostering communication and harmony throughout Korean society,” he said.
He stressed that the newly established Committee will focus on expanding socio-cultural exchanges between North and South Korea and establishing a solid foundation for future unification through constructive dialogue that is decisive for future unification.
“The fast track to unification lies in the implementation of free movement. It is imperative that we seek unification through constructive dialogue without force. Our country must be a testament to peace”.
“We must work together, so that future generations can be happy, better and our wishes can become reality, and present a vision for a full peace on the Korean Peninsula,” he said.

Ven. Seok Yeonhwa, President of the Supreme Patriarch of the World Buddhist Sangha Council, announced the future plans of the committee saying, “We will unite people’s hearts through campaigns, expand public understanding and support for unification through education, and conduct research on post-unification social and economic integration.”
In the same opportunity, Rector Sungkyunkwan Kim Yeong-geun stressed the critical role of civil exchanges, calling for a legal and institutional framework to ensure their continuity, regardless of political changes that occur.
“A cornerstone of the event was the presentation of a draft constitution establishing a Unified Korea” by Professor Ciarán Burke of the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena developed by the HWPL International Law Peace Committee.
As Professor Ciarán Burke argues, this draft establishes the legal foundations for a unified Korea, including the goals and a system of peace that protects citizens’ rights and welfare.
“This initiative will advance the cause of Korean unification, stability in the future, and ensure that the region and the world have the possibility to remain a more peaceful place, the joint campaign’s challenge to unite Korea will actively promote unification by defending free movement and international support.
“Over 10 days, participants from 243 cities in 72 countries contributed more than 1,350 pieces of content, demonstrating global interest in peaceful unification on the Korean Peninsula” He concluded.
Meanwhile, the event was attended by the President of HWPL, international NGOs, the UN, and nearly a thousand domestic and international leaders to discuss the establishment of legal and practical frameworks for peace.
