Na manhã de 21 de novembro de 2025, o Santo Padre Leão XIV reuniu-se com o Presidente da República de Timor-Leste, José Ramos Horta, para tratar da relação entre a Santa Sé e Timor-Leste e do contributo da Igreja Católica para os timorenses.
Durante a conversa, segundo um comunicado da Santa Sé, o encontro “destacou as boas relações entre a Santa Sé e Timor-Leste e o contributo da Igreja Católica ao sociedade timorense. Além disso, foram abordados alguns aspetos da situação económica e social do país”, conforme noticiado pelo Vatican News, a 21/11/2025.
Durante a conversa, as duas partes trocaram ainda opiniões sobre “a situação regional e discutiram a recente adesão de Timor-Leste à Associação das Nações do Sudeste Asiático (ASEAN)”.
